Did you hear the news?! Coming off flawless back-to-back launches, the Virgin Orbit team takes the next important step in providing routine commercial flights to orbit with “Above the Clouds.”

The mission name “Above the Clouds” pays homage to hip hop sensation Gang Starr’s album, “Moment of Truth.” Released on March 31, 1998, by Virgin Records in collaboration with Noo Trybe Recrods, “Moment of Truth” is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. The song titled Above the Clouds, featuring Inspectah Deck of Wu-Tang Clan, appears as the fifth track – and Virgin Orbit’s favorite. We are especially inspired by the chorus:

Above the crowds, above the clouds
Where the sounds are original
Infinite skills create miracles

As we pause around the United States to mark Veter

As we pause around the United States to mark Veterans Day today, we want to take a moment to highlight and honor some of the veterans on our team. Here at Virgin Orbit, we believe wholeheartedly that the unique experiences and perspectives of the individuals on our team are our greatest strength. We also believe in celebrating those diverse backgrounds that make us who we are.

On Veterans Day, we took a brief break from rocket building and launch prepping, contracts writing and blog posting to celebrate our talented veteran teammates, each of whom are making invaluable contributions to our rocket program by also supporting our local friends at veteran-owned and operated @atomiccreamery. This year, Virgin Orbit has decided to donate to @operationhomefront whose mission is to build strong and secure military families so they can thrive – not simply struggle to get by – in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.

We are delighted to announce our next mission: “Above the Clouds” is coming before the end of the year! Yesterday, a fully assembled rocket that will carry satellites to space for two clients arrived at the Mojave Air and Space Port after departing Virgin Orbit’s Long Beach rocket factory.

In a matter of hours, the rocket left the factory, travelled to Mojave, was mated to our 747 Cosmic Girl and completed initial check-outs. The ability to “clip” a rocket under wing and quickly ready for launch is a key attribute of the LauncherOne system.

ANNOUNCING❗️We are honored to announce that ANA HOLDINGS INC., owners of award-winning airline ANA ALL NIPPON AIRWAYS (ANA) has selected Virgin Orbit as its air launch partner.❗️We will work with ANA HOLDINGS INC., the owners of Japan’s largest airline, to plan and procure twenty flights of the LauncherOne rocket to launch from Japan’s Oita Prefecture. Virgin Orbit along with ANA HOLDINGS INC. also aims to make Oita a LauncherOne-ready spaceport as soon as the end of 2022, pending appropriate regulatory approvals in the US and Japan.

While Japan’s aerospace industry is impressive and has a long history of being at the forefront of satellite technology, combining forces with Virgin Orbit will bring air-launch capabilities to the Eastern Hemisphere for the first time in history.
